DITA Links - Display Using: Text/Format

Hello FM experts,

[specs: FM9, Win XP SP3]

I stumbled upon a problem with the related links that I use in my DITA topics. After creating a book from a DITA map, I noticed that the page numbering in the FM XRefs is not updated, although all chapters and pages in the book are properly numbered. The XRefs all point to the correct locations in the book, but the page number always is "1".

When looking at the "DITA Link" dialog for these XRefs, the "Display Using" setting is always set to "Text", which essentially means that FM is using the text stored in the <linktext> element to display the XRef. When previously creating the links I explicitely set the "Display Using" setting to "Format" and selected an XRef format from the list. The <linktext> element contains the literal text of the link target paragraph/element from the point in time at which the related link was created in the DITA topic. (At that point in time the page number of the link targets was indeed "1", because all links point to the first headings of different topics.)

The DITA 1.1 reference states the following about <linktext> elements:

"The <linktext> element provides the literal label or line of text for a link.In most cases, the text of a link can be resolved during processing by cross reference with the target resource. Use the <linktext> element only when the target cannot be reached, such as when it is a peer or external link, or the target is local but not in DITA format. [...]"

Obviously, FM is correctly using the <linktext> element when creating the FM book from the DITA map, because its presence indicates that the link target is not part of the publication.

However, why is FM inserting a <linktext> element into the XML source in the first place, when the link target can be reached? The topic files all reside in the same folder...
