more on special characters: non-breaking space in user variables?

Hi all,

We had a recent thread on special characters, especially non-breaking spaces, hyphens, etc. (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2120490#2120490).

I'd like to use a nonbreaking space in a user variable.  I've tried these:

\ space

\x11

...and they look fine in Frame, but they generate a parsing error when saving to xml (Invalid character (Unicode: 0x11)

Arnis mentions the unicode character u+00A0 as being valid, but I'm not sure how to insert it, especially into a user variable. If I insert it directly, Frame just treats it as text. A search on unicode across the doc set reveals almost nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks very much,

Shelley
