Ditamap creates bad book files

Hi there-

[Frame 8.0p277 on Windows XP]

I have a ditamap that references ditamaps in subdirectories as well as individual xml files in subdirectories. (All files are in the main directory, where the top-level ditamap lives, or in subdirectories of the main one.) When I try to create a book file from the top-level ditamap I get some book components that correspond to a topicref, but I also get some that correspond to the topicrefs in a referenced ditamap (some of which are ditamaps and some are individual xml files). However, topicrefs that are individual xml files in the top-level ditamap are missing from the book file. It's kind of confusing--I don't understand how I'm supposed to be creating a ditamap that will create the correct book file.

Additionally, the book file isn't valid: the top level is fm-ditabook; its children are all fm-ditafiles, and all but one of those have hrefs that are red, though they seem to be correct. I don't know if this is related to the above problem. In any case, it's secondary.

I have a screen dump of the book file and ditamap correspondences, and a screen dump of the structure view of the book, if that would help, though I'm not sure how to post that here.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
