I am using FM10 on Windows XP. I am working in a book based on a structured template, which contains various chapters, appendices, a TOC, and index.
While in the book pane, I like to toggle the view between "Display File Name" and "Display Heading Text." I also like to customize these fields, to keep my work clear and organized.
However, I am unable to get the TOC and Index to display the names I want in the "Display Heading" view. All the other files are pulling the "Heading Text" from the chapter titles. But in the case of the TOC and index, when I generate those two book components, it automatically pulls the first entry from each one and assigns it as the "Heading Text" name (in the case of the TOC the first chapter, and in the case of the index the letter "A").
After I generate TOC and Index, I have to go back in and apply the styles and formats from other our templates, which includes manually inserting the titles (paragraph style is there, but it doesn't generate name automatically). However, when I do that update, the titles don't get updated in the "Heading Text", as they do in the other chapters and appendices; if I change the text in the chapters and the appendices, the "Heading Text" changes, too.
We are using some klunky, franken-templates that have been cobbled together over years. And I suspect this has something to do with the problem. I'm not sure how FM associates this Heading Text with a Paragraph Format or something similar, but if someone could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it, so I could unravel this annoyance.
Thanks,
Douglas
